Over 55 million smartphones were shipped 1st quarter of 2010
The world’s smartphone markets continued to build on their strong 4Q-2009 performance in the first three months of 2010. According to the latest ABI Research data, a little more than 55 million smartphones shipped during the quarter.
iPhone and Android mobile products from Opera coming to CTIA Wireless Show
Opera to showcase their latest mobile phone and device products for the iPhone and Android at CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas. Final versions of Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 will also be on display on many of today’s most popular handset platforms, including Symbian S60, Windows Mobile 6.5, J2ME and RIM Blackberry. Both products were released earlier this week, bringing Opera’s new user interface and feature set to market.
m-Wise sees revenue growth in 2009 and moves from loss to profitability
Mobile content service and technology vendor m-Wise (MWIS) announced its consolidated financial results for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2009. Revenues for the year ended December 31, 2009 rose to $3,166,276, up 12% from $2,833,626 in 2008. Income from license fees and products increased 65% to $795,096 for the year ended December 31, 2009 from $481,116 for the same period in 2008. Gross Profit for the year ended December 31, 2009 rose to $2,269,019, up 31% from $1,727,526 in 2008. General and administrative expenses decreased 14% to $1,662,859 for the year ended December 31, 2009 from $1,940,732 for the year ended December 31, 2008. Research and development expenses decreased 28% to $548,673 for the year ended December 31, 2009 from $758,693 for the year ended December 31, 2008. Net Profit for the year ended December 31, 2009, was $82,985 compared with a net loss of $1,035,722 in 2008.

One app features never-before-heard prank calls and content, while the other features a fun pinball application. Too bad Kamal isn’t involved, we think he added flavor to the act.

Mobile content technology vendor, m-Wise (OTCBB: MWIS) announces its newly formed relationship with Malaco Music Group. Malaco currently has an impressive 2,000 hits on their website each day, and forecasts a significant lift in this number with the launch of their ringtone offering. This feature will be promoted virtually through their website, blogspot, Twitter and on physical CDs.

“Monsters vs. Aliens” invading a mobile phone near you
Glu Mobile Inc. (Nasdaq:GLUU), a leading global publisher of mobile games, announced the worldwide launch of the mobile game based on DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: DWA) highly-anticipated film, “Monsters vs. Aliens,” which comes to theaters in the U.S. on March 27, 2009. This marks the second mobile game to be developed and published by Glu based on DreamWorks Animation’s hit films, following the 2008 release of “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.”
Mobile Streams launches HBO mobile retail portal
Mobile Streams announced that it will launch HBO Mobile, a mobile internet retail portal for the premium television network Home Box Office (HBO).
The HBO Mobile retail site will offer personalization content (i.e. ringtones and wallpapers) from popular and award-winning HBO shows such as Flight of the Conchords, Big Love, True Blood, Rome, Entourage, The Sopranos, Sex and the City and The Wire.
